NOTE: This scholarship application is separate from any others filed with James Madison University and is required for consideration for a Second Century Scholarship.

Application deadline: March 15, 2015

All applicants must enter JMU as freshmen in Fall 2015 and meet the following criteria:

  1. SAT ≥ 1200 for the math and critical reading (also referred to as "verbal") combined score, or ACT score ≥ 27
  2. GPA ≥ 3.5 (performance in science, technology, and mathematics courses will receive additional consideration)
  3. Demonstrated interest in and commitment to study in a STEM area
  4. Declaration of major in a designated STEM area (Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth Science, Engineering, Geographic Science, Geology, Information Analysis, Integrated Science and Technology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics).

One letter of reference from a science, technology, or mathematics teacher must be emailed as an attachment to SCS@jmu.edu. Letter must include telephone number and email address of the author. Letters should address maturity and potential of student to excel in chosen major; comparison of student to others they have taught or known; demonstrated high interest in science, technology, engineering, mathematics; outstanding qualities of the student
