Hydrogen Fuel Cell Technology System
The Virginia Clean Cities program has proposed the establishment of a network of small- to medium-scale Hydrogen Power Parks in Virginia . The elements of the network would include small-scale demonstration facilities at James Madison University . JMU is installing an electrolyzer (which is a fuel cell that stores excess electrical energy generated by solar cells as disassociated water molecules) system in conjunction with the 10-kW solar-electric power plant in front of the ISAT/CS building. The majority of design was completed as a 2004 senior project. This follow-on project will entail finalizing that design, installing the system, and collecting the initial data. The cost to support this project is estimated at $50,000
